DESCRIPTION

A true icon of the 1990s, the Moncler Verneuil is undoubtedly one of the most legendary puffer jackets in the history of the French brand. Introduced in 1991, this unisex jacket enjoyed tremendous popularity throughout the decade, becoming one of the defining symbols of winter fashion at the time. With its spectacular silhouette and generously exaggerated proportions, it perfectly embodies the golden age of oversized puffer jackets.

The Verneuil is best known for its exceptionally puffy, distinctive batwing-style silhouette, particularly noticeable around the shoulders and upper sleeves. This unique construction creates an almost sculptural, rounded shape, with dramatically oversized shoulders flowing seamlessly into remarkably voluminous sleeves. Its wide horizontal quilted baffles, generously filled with down, further enhance its impressive proportions, making the Verneuil instantly recognizable.

Made in France, the jacket combines a lustrous nylon outer shell, ranging from glossy to exceptionally shiny depending on the version, with generous 100% down insulation. Its oversized padded stand-up collar provides excellent protection against the cold, while the front closure features a zipper concealed beneath a snap-button storm flap. Two angled zippered pockets, elasticated cuffs with snap adjustments, and an adjustable drawstring hem complete its distinctive design.

Several variations of the Verneuil were produced throughout the 1990s, particularly regarding branding details. Some versions feature a remarkably minimalist appearance, without the traditional Moncler sleeve badge, displaying only a discreet « MONCLER » inscription beneath the left pocket. Other versions feature the iconic Moncler logo on the upper left sleeve instead, with no lettering beneath the pocket. These subtle differences reflect the various production runs and evolutions of the model throughout the decade.

The Verneuil’s extensive color palette is another remarkable aspect of its legacy. No fewer than 24 different colorways have been documented to date, ranging from timeless classics to vibrant, eye-catching shades. A particularly distinctive special edition was also produced, featuring luxurious gold-colored accents around the collar, pockets, and cuffs, adding an extra touch of exclusivity to an already extraordinary jacket.

Although the Verneuil is primarily recognized for its short, exceptionally voluminous silhouette, it was also produced in a mid-length version, featuring a slightly longer cut and an additional horizontal quilted baffle. An even shorter cropped variation has also been documented.

Extremely fashionable throughout the 1990s, the Moncler Verneuil left a lasting impression on an entire generation and helped define the popularity of oversized down jackets across Europe. Long associated with the unmistakable winter aesthetic of that era, it experienced renewed interest with the resurgence of oversized fashion silhouettes in the early 2020s.

More than three decades after its introduction, the Moncler Verneuil remains a true collector’s piece. Its glossy nylon finish, exaggerated proportions, and unmistakable batwing silhouette make it a truly unique creation in Moncler’s history. A jacket that never needed to follow trends to become a legend.
